Peter Gabriel, nuovo singolo: Panopticom

La prima novità che presentiamo quest'anno non viene dall'Italia, ma ci sembrava giusto, per non dire doveroso, dare spazio al primo singolo inedito da più di 20 anni di quello che è uno dei più grandi "eroi musicali" del sottoscritto.

Risale infatti al 2002 Up, l'ultimo album di inediti pubblicato da Peter Gabriel, che è stato seguito da due album di cover orchestrali: nel 2010 Scratch my back, con brani di altri artisti, e nel 2011 New blood, con sue composizioni (che a dire il vero conteneva un brano mai pubblicato in precedenza, A quiet moment).

Venerdì scorso la sua Real World e Sony hanno pubblicato un suo nuovo brano, Panopticom, prima anticipazione dal tanto atteso prossimo album, che di intitolerà i/o. Con lui, i suoi storici collaboratori, Tony Levin al basso, David Rhodes alla chitarra elettrica e Manu Katché alla batteria, nonché Brian Eno, che aggiunge il suo tocco con "Bells and Haunting Synths". Il risultato è un brano dal grande fascino, che come sua abitudine sa unire pop e sperimentazione in modo mirabile, ma anche contenuti di spessore.

Le liriche (vedi sotto) sono infatti in parte "ispirate dallo straordinario lavoro di tre gruppi, Forensic Architecture, Bellingcat e la pioneristica organizzazione per i diritti umani WITNESS, di cui è co-fondatore". Lasciamo spiegare la cosa dalle sue parole, senza lanciarci in traduzioni: "The first song is based on an idea I have been working on to initiate the creation of an infinitely expandable accessible data globe: The Panopticom. We are beginning to connect a like-minded group of people who might be able to bring this to life, to allow the world to see itself better and understand more of what’s really going on."

Questo primo brano, accompagnato da una copertina dell'artista David Spriggs, è stato pubblicato il giorno della prima luna piena del 2023, e le fasi lunari guideranno anche le successive uscite, una ogni luna piena: enjoy!!
